Secondary Activities

SNHi Secondary School Activities

SNHi Secondary School Activities are based mostly on data and information provided by SNH. These 24 pupil activities help teachers meet the Scottish curricular guidelines for 11-18 year olds.

The activities include topics such as: red and grey squirrels; water vole and American mink; great yellow bumblebee; pine hoverfly; freshwater fish focusing on vendace; About Scotland's Nature; Monitoring Population Changes; A New Wind Farm; Scotland's protected areas; Recreation; and Access.

A great deal of additional data and information about many aspects of Scotland's nature is already available online and at no charge.

 

Advances Posters and Teacher's notes

Advances is series of A2 posters that bring teachers up to date with advances in a range of natural heritage topics in Scotland. Aimed at secondary teachers and pupils, there are free teachers notes are available on request to accompany most of the posters.

They cover a range of topics including:

  • Scotland: A Little Piece of North America - explains how Scotland was formed more than 400 million years ago.
  • Climate Change: The heat is Up and its raining - describes the effects of current climate changes across Scotland.

Scottish Outdoor Access Code Activity Guide

This Code Activity Guide has been developed to help teachers and leaders support young people (12 - 14 year olds) to explore and understand their rights and responsibilities in the outdoors and apply them to their daily lives. It provides activity ideas that are designed to be fun and thought provoking and add value to a number of curricular areas and cross curricular themes of the Curriculum for Excellence, including Learning Outdoors and Citizenship.
