Find out about Scotland's nature and SNH
At SNH we maintain a vast store of knowledge about our nature and landscapes.
Are you looking for information or activities for specific habitats, species, rocks, soils or landforms? If so, there are some schools web-sites and resources highlighted in the About Scotland's Nature section.
We also have data and information on many aspects of Scotland's environment and our Interactive maps and data section allows you easy access to this information to view and download.
If you are looking for publications - we have booklet series that tell you more about nature.
- 'Naturally Scottish' looks at one or more of Scotland's native species.
- 'Landscape Fashioned by Geology' explains how the countryside around us developed over geological time, relating familiar views to the rocks beneath. These publications are produced jointly with the British Geological Survey.
- 'Scotland's Living Landscapes' looks at habitats; how and why they develop; the wildlife that they are home to; and the cultural heritage associated with them. This series includes; Coasts, Firths, Grasslands, Kelp Forests, Machair, Mountains, Sea Lochs, Soils, Springs and Flushes and Boglands.
The Nature of Scotland Magazine - our free quarterly magazine, covers recent news and feature articles about Scotland's nature and the work of SNH. It also includes kid's activities, and reports on projects with schools. Complete our mailing list form to receive your copy.
