Freshwaters and climate change

The fresh waters of Scotland include some of the most spectacular waters in the UK as well as the largest.

Scotland is one of the strongholds of several freshwater animals which have declined or even disappeared in many other countries; for example, freshwater pearl mussel, Arctic charr, and Atlantic salmon.

Fresh waters also support a range of human activities, including angling and canoeing, human water supply, waste disposal, and farmed fish.

The impacts of climate change on the water cycle are expected to be significant and these changes are already happening.

The Freshwaters and climate change in Scotland topic sheet  PDF document  will provide you with all this information, links to the curriculum and web-links to help you find out more.
