Scottish Marine Environment

Scotland's marine waters are vitally important to the sustainable future of the country. Our coasts and seas provide food from fisheries, energy and mineral resources, routes and harbours for shipping, tourism and recreation and sites of geological, cultural and historic interest.

They contain important habitats and a rich variety of wildlife including whales, dolphins, porpoises, seabirds, and the basking shark. This rich community of marine life, however, is being threatened and this topic explores ways of working together to ensure we can continue to have a thriving marine environment.

A case study of Loch Creran, a special sea loch situated on the west coast in Argyll, looks at resolving conflicts to achieve successful multiple use.
