SNH and Biodiversity
Scottish Natural Heritage has a lead role in driving biodiversity action in Scotland. We work with a range of other bodies to deliver the 2020 Challenge for Scotland's Biodiversity.
Scotland's Biodiversity - a route map to 2020 was launched at Easterhouse in Glasgow on 25 June 2015 by the Minister for Environment, Climate Change and Land Reform, Dr. Aileen McLeod. Scottish Natural Heritage will play a lead role in delivery of the Route Map. The key documents are:
SNH is a key player in the Scottish Biodiversity Committee and each of the 8 working groups leading on a different aspect of biodiversity conservation.
Like all public bodies in Scotland Scottish Natural Heritage has a Biodiversity Duty which we fulfil through driving delivery of the SBS. Biodiversity is core to much of what we do, such as management of designated sites, licensing for protected species, provision of funding for projects and groups.
SNH continues to support Local Biodiversity Action Partnerships, encouraging them to consider landscape-scale projects that can start to address the drivers of biodiversity loss across whole ecosystems.
