Organisational structure

SNH staff are organised into 3 directorates, each headed by a Director:

  • Operations - responsible for operational delivery across Northern Isles & North Highland, South Highland, Argyll & Outer Hebrides, Tayside & Grampian, Forth, Strathclyde & Ayrshire and Southern Scotland.
  • Policy & Advice - responsible for providing research and guidance on all aspects of the natural heritage.
  • Corporate Services - responsible for delivering the organisations supporting services such as human resources, finance, information technology etc.

Each Directorate is headed by a Director, and the five Directors, led by the Chief Executive, comprise the Management Team.   See our organisational structure chart  PDF document for further detail.

Across Scotland SNH has 7 operational areas which belong to the Operations Directorate. These areas can be viewed on the attached map of SNH Areas in Scotland.

In addition to the three Directorates, there is a Senior Management Unit whose function is to service the Board, Committees and Management Team.
