Managing Scotland's deer
With effect from 1st August 2010, the Deer Commission for Scotland has merged with Scottish Natural Heritage. SNH now has the role of promoting conservation and sustainable management of deer in Scotland. SNH has all the powers and functions previously available to the Deer Commission for Scotland, and most staff have transferred to SNH too.
'Managing Scotland's Deer: our new role'
sets out the actions which we propose to take in exercising our new deer remit and continuing the work of the Deer Commission for Scotland. It makes clear how these actions sit within, and contribute to, our strategic priorities.
The merger forms part of Scottish Government's drive to streamline public sector decision-making and secure efficiencies, while making sure that required services continue to be delivered effectively.
Our Web pages on Managing deer provide more detail on various aspects of sustainable deer management.
