Natural Heritage Futures
SNH has set out a vision of what Scotland could be like based on sustainable management and use of the natural heritage.
Natural Heritage Futures guides the management of Scotland's nature and landscapes towards 2025. It's made up of six national prospectuses covering farmland, coasts and seas, hills and moors, settlements, fresh waters, and forests and woodlands.
There are also local prospectuses for twenty-one different parts of Scotland with distinctive character. Each describes what is distinctive to each region in Scotland a vision for the natural heritage for 2025 objectives and actions required to pursue that vision.
The original Natural Heritage Futures prospectuses were published in 2002, and following a review of the documents SNH published an Update in August 2009. For each of the prospectuses an Update statement, which should be viewed alongside the original document, has been produced identifying significant changes since 2002 in Government policy or legislation, new procedures or changed priorities and the implications these have for the objectives and actions for the natural heritage.
