Management of SACs
Natura sites are generally underpinned by the SSSI
mechanism in the terrestrial environment, although there are a few exceptions.
Alternative measures such as positive management schemes are employed
to safeguard sites in these cases.
Under SNH’s Natural
Care Strategy creating appropriate positive management of SSSI and
Natura sites, SACs are a priority. Have a look at some of the Management
Schemes currently being developed.
Another mechanism to manage SACs is through partnership projects under
the
European LIFE-Nature fund. Here are a few past and present examples
of LIFE projects in which SNH has been involved.

- Clyde Valley Woodlands (part of the Core Forests Sites LIFE Project)
- Atlantic Oakwoods Restoration Project
