Focus on Firths

Focus on Firths is a Scotland-wide initiative to promote the integrated management of the natural resources of our firths.

The development and use of firths is planned and regulated by numerous statutory bodies, which has often resulted in a piecemeal approach to development which fails to take account of natural heritage considerations.

This project aims to involve all statutory, voluntary and community interests with a stake in the firth, in the process of generating a management strategy. Strategy development will proceed in parallel with environmental review and research projects, educational, awareness-raising and community projects.

Through consultation and negotiation it is hoped that a common understanding of the range of uses and requirements of the sites will lead to widespread 'ownership' of management proposals.
