Responding to Climate Change

Over the coming decades, climate change will be one of the biggest challenges for Scotland's nature and landscapes. Research is aimed towards understanding the potential impacts of climate change and possible adaptation measures for habitats and species also helping promote land management and planning approaches which maintain healthy natural systems.

Our Research Strategy (2007-12)  outlines and explains the high priority research we need to undertake in the next four years. This is currently being updated and re-freshed, and the new version will be published this year.

SNH research into the impacts of extreme weather events on operations and infrastructure.

This research project reviewed the impacts of recent weather events on SNH operations, properties and National Nature Reserves to help us to learn from past experiences and to help us to develop a better and informed response to further climate change.
