Battleby house and estate

Battleby House and grounds, located just outside Luncarty, was built in 1861 for the Graham family and used as a hospital in WW1. Battleby House and grounds have lots of stories to tell. Explore the grounds full of exotic trees and plants which were planted and cared for by a team of 10 gardeners when Battleby House was owned by Sir Alexander Cross, and see some modern examples of good practice in conservation management. Search for signs of the past like the huge windows, now part of Battleby Centre, created from the arches of the old stables; or try locating the old tennis court.

Battleby House came into public ownership in 1970 and was the headquarters of the Countryside Commission for Scotland before becoming one of the main offices of Scottish Natural Heritage.
