Fun for kids

The outdoors is great for children to discover, explore, and let off steam. There's a host of places which are ideal for families to visit and they could be closer than you think.

Go wild with your child

Many of these places to visit don't have an entry charge. They also have facilities like toilets, visitor centre, car parking and a ranger service.

Depending on where you live, you may well be able to walk or cycle to get there. For places further afield, the local authority website should provide good information about local bus services. You can also find useful information about public transport at Traveline Scotland external site and National Rail Enquiries external site

When you take the kids outdoors remember to take along appropriate warm, waterproof and windproof clothing, strong waterproof footwear and sun protection. Snacks and drinks for frequent refuelling make all the difference too.

And don't forget to find out About Scotland's Nature before you go, so you know what to look out for.
