Walking
Walking is by far the most popular outdoor activity in Scotland. Just over three-quarters of all outdoor visits (78%) are undertaken by people walking.
You don't have to be out all day. Why not just take a short walk in your local area; it's amazing what you can discover within less than two miles of your doorstep. For those with more time and energy, walking is a great way to discover new parts of Scotland.
Walk to health!
Walking is a great way to relax, recharge your batteries and improve your health. Just 30 minutes walking five days a week can contribute to the government's recommended exercise guidelines and walking is something nearly everyone can do, from paths close to home to gentle rambles that require no specialist clothing or kit. Join a Health Walking Group
or check out Visit Scotland's Walking Routes
and pick one that suits your ability. Bear in mind it's important to be properly prepared for the weather, the terrain and the Scottish midge!
Walk with others
For those new to walking or who want to meet new people or explore new areas in Scotland, why not try a Ranger led walk
or join your local Ramblers Scotland
Group? Whatever your ability always remember to follow the Scottish Outdoor Access Code
