Woods and forests

Woods and forests provide a fantastic setting for walks, mountain biking, events and lots of fun for the whole family. Discover the sights, sounds and smells of our woods and forests; there's something for everyone! 

They are a number of organisations that manage woods and forests. Some also provide facilities such as car parks, toilets and visitor centres to make your visit easier.

Forestry Commission

The Forestry Commission Scotland external site  manage sites all over the country. Find out if the Forestry Commissions Woodlands in and Around Towns initiative  external site has a site near you.

Woodland Trust

The Woodland Trust manage 80 woods in Scotland and is also running the VisitWoods initiative across the UK. VisitWoods Scotland aims to inspire everyone, in particular children, families, older people and people with disabilities, giving you the confidence to visit woods for recreation, wellbeing and enjoyment. The new interactive website external site promotes the use of local woods and forests and has everything you need to plan a great day out: searchable maps, inspiring ideas, free activities and space to upload your own photos, stories and tips

Central Scotland Forest Trust

The Central Scotland Forest Trust external site manages woodlands that are spread throughout 620 square miles bounded by Edinburgh, Glasgow, Falkirk, Stirling and Lanark and are available for everyone to enjoy.
