Enjoying the outdoors policy

Scotland's outdoors provides great opportunities to get close to nature, meet with friends and get some exercise. Outdoor recreation also makes an important contribution to the Government's national objectives for health, the economy and the natural environment. Government policy therefore seeks to encourage more people to enjoy the outdoors, including those who rarely take part in these activities, and providing for outdoor recreation can help local authorities to fulfil their single outcome agreements. Our statement on Enjoying the Outdoors describes how Scottish Natural Heritage will help take this forward, working with local authorities, land managers and recreation bodies.
