Priority 3 – Woodland management
Proposed Scottish Natural Heritage activities
- ensure that updates to Scottish Natural Heritage guidance fully reflect the balance between carbon storage and other objectives that relate to the natural heritage;
- develop Scottish Natural Heritage advice on potential site restoration and reseeding strategy of woodland and plantations shortly due for felling;
- engage with FCS, through the Scottish Land Use Strategy, on priorities and the need to balance biodiversity/soil carbon/woodland interests with future woodland expansion aspirations;
- collaborate with FCS/FR and others to develop an agreed model of carbon fluxes in relation to afforestation (including native woodland) on peaty soils.
