Wild deer welfare

Welfare of wild deer is applicable at an individual and population level and is about ensuring that deer don't suffer. Safeguarding wild deer welfare is central to responsible deer management.

What is wild deer welfare?

It's about ensuring the mental and physical well-being of deer. As with all mammals, deer can experience pain, fear, hunger and other stressful states.

Welfare - perceptions and research

Increased awareness of 'welfare' has led to the expectation that welfare responsibilities should become an explicit component of wild deer management.
