Wildlife welfare

SNH is the leading government advisor on wildlife management and is increasingly being asked to address welfare issues. How we trap squirrels or why we do not implement a national feeding programme for red deer during severe winters are the types of questions the people in Scotland ask because they care about Scotland's wildlife. These questions can be difficult to answer as there is no clear legal framework guiding the welfare of wild species. This position statement  PDF document sets out SNH's understanding of and approach to wildlife welfare.
