Strategic Review of SNH

A strategic review of SNH was carried out in 2005. The review was requested by Scottish Ministers and led by David Bills, former Director-General of the Forestry Commission, on behalf of the Scottish Executive.

All public bodies are subject to such Policy, Finance & Management Reviews at approximately 5-year intervals. SNH was previously reviewed in 1998.

The review drew on the views and experience of other bodies, and anyone who wished to contribute to it.

The first stage of the review was completed in December 2004. The full review was submitted to Ministers in March 2005.

SNH welcomed the Review findings. Scottish Ministers gave their response to the Review in November 2005, grouping the 62 recommendations into 25 Actions. These actions are expected to be substantially completed by December 2006, and the remaining one on new structures for SNH will be implemented on 1 April 2007.
