Research

We commission research into a wide range of issues affecting Scotland's nature and landscapes. Our approach to research is guided by a research strategy. Our priorities for renewable energy are to improve:

  • understanding of the potential impacts of marine renewables on the marine environment;
  • understanding of the interaction of windfarms with landscapes, habitats and species (and in particular birds);
  • understanding of the impacts of microgeneration on nature and landscapes;
  • modelling potential scenarios for renewable energy development and their cumulative impacts on nature and landscapes, with a particular focus on protected species;
  • understanding of the impact of bioenergy development on nature and landscapes.
