How we develop policy and guidance

We participate in policy development by responding to consultations, delivering advice sought by Ministers, working jointly with other parties with an interest in the topic, or by a combination of these. Where changes in approach are proposed, we normally aim to consult widely among those likely to be affected. For our plans and strategies we undertake Strategic Environmental Assessment to identify any other environmental effects, and we consult in public both on that assessment and on the draft plan. 

Our Policy Development Programme 2009-12   is a forward list of topics on which we intend to devote time in developing our approach. Published documents resulting from this work are listed in an alphabetic index on the SNH Policy Documents page.
