SNH's Landscape Group

Who we are

A team of landscape specialists based in SNH offices in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Inverness, Perth and Aberdeen.  Located within the People and Places Unit, we work alongside staff responsible for SNH's work on recreation, access, communities and greenspace.

What we do

The team has overall responsibility for SNH's landscape remit.  We work with a range of other agencies, the Scottish Government, local authorities and communities, to achieve good landscapes.  Our core activities are providing advice on a wide range of planning and land-use issues (strategic plans and some individual proposals), promoting landscape policy, undertaking research and preparing guidance on assessing and managing landscapes.  We advise the Scottish Government, planning authorities and other decision makers on the landscape implications of legislation, policy, development plans, specific proposals for development (such as new housing, fish farms and windfarms) and land-use management (such as Land Management Contracts and forestry proposals).
