National Nature Reserves in Scotland

Where are they ?

There are more than fifty National Nature Reserves in Scotland. These special places, showcasing the very best of Scotland's nature, cover less than 1.5% of Scotland.

The northernmost National Nature Reserve is Hermaness external site at the northern tip of Shetland. At the opposite end of the country is Caerlaverock external site on the shores of the Solway Firth. National Nature Reserves are located all over the country and include some of our best known wildlife sites such as Beinn Eighe external site , Loch Leven external site and St Kilda external site , as well as less familiar, yet equally spectacular, reserves like Clyde Valley Woodlands external site on the outskirts of Glasgow or Blawhorn Moss external site not far from Edinburgh.

The NNR website has a map external site showing the location of all of the National Nature Reserves in Scotland.
