East Mingulay possible Special Area of Conservation

This consultation closed on 22 February 2011.

Update Friday 19 August 2011

On behalf of Scottish Government, Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) ran a consultation starting in November 2010, inviting views on the proposal to designate East Mingulay as a Special Area of Conservation.  Following the consultation, we have informed the Scottish Ministers of the views received.

Scottish Ministers have taken these views into consideration and have decided that East Mingulay possible Special Area of Conservation should be proposed to the European Commission as a candidate Special Area of Conservation. This is an essential stage in the progression of the site towards full designation. East Mingulay is due to be included in a list of sites to be sent to the European Commission on the 5 September 2011.

After submission the European Commission will analyse Member States' proposals before selecting sites (in agreement with Member States) for formal designation as Special Areas of Conservation.  SNH will provide future updates on this decision.
