Scottish Biodiversity Working Groups

There are seven working groups in the Scottish biodiversity structure each taking a lead on a different element of biodiversity. Coordinating and overseeing the work of these groups is the Action Coordination Group  external site and above that the Scottish Biodiversity Committee  external site .

There are:

  • 5 Ecosystem Groups based around a linked group of habitats.
  • A Biodiversity Science Group which oversees coordination of science and research efforts in support of biodiversity action.
  • A People and Communications Group which will help increase people's awareness of and engagement with biodiversity.

Who does what?

Ecosystem Groups

The 5 ecosystem groups each have a delivery plan which describes the ecosystem and its constituent habitats, sets out the key influences on that ecosystem and the services provided by it. There is also a plan of prioritised actions at ecosystem, habitat and species specific levels which identifies action over a three year period and is reviewed annually. These plans can be viewed via the ecosystem group links below:

Biodiversity Science Group

The Biodiversity Science Group  external site has a remit to do the following, amongst other things:

  • promote input of high quality scientific advice to delivery of the Scottish Biodiversity Strategy external site and the UKBAP external site
  • provide a focus for the identification of research needs
  • organise an annual biodiversity conference

People and Communications Group

The People and Communications Group external site has developed a delivery plan setting out a programme of work which will help deliver real improvements to people's awareness, understanding and enjoyment of biodiversity and help them to engage with it.

It also identifies key issues which will influence communicating and delivering action for people and biodiversity.
