Bat licences - Houses

Bats are quite commonly found in peoples houses.  In most cases people don't even know that they are there.  Bats don't chew cables or any other materials and are not destructive by nature.  If you think you have bats in your house, contact your local Scottish Natural Heritage office and they will arrange for a bat worker to visit your house and advise about your bats.

Sometimes householders may need to carry out repairs or renovations that might affect bats in their property.  In rare circumstances householders can experience problems with bat roosts in their houses, for instance if there is a particularly large roost present.  Most problems can be solved relatively easily, and the bat worker will be able to advise you about this.  In some circumstances owners or occupiers might need a licence to carry out works, or, may wish to have the bats excluded from the house.

Alternatively contact Scottish Natural Heritage species licencing team to obtain the relevant forms.
