Whats in your area? We are currently developing our SNH area web pages in order to provide you more information on current events in your local area and special places to visit, whether it be; a woodland walk, a walk along the coast, a visit to your Local Nature Reserve, a visit to your nearest National Nature Reserve or somewhere special to take your kids.

• National Nature Reserves

  Looking for a great family day out? Then why not consider visiting one of Scotland's 51 National Nature Reserves? Most NNRs are either managed by Scottish Natural Heritage or are privately owned and managed under a Nature Reserve Agreement.

  Scotland's National Nature Reserves are special places for nature where many of the best examples of Scotland's wildlife and landscapes are protected.

  You can visit a nature reserve near you. They are all featured on our NNR web site and our unique guide will help you get the most from your visit.

• Go Wild With Your Child

For parents and carers of pre-school children. These booklets provide you with a list of places in each area where pre-schoolers can be introduced to the wonders of nature and give details of directions, bus routes, costs, facilities and some activity ideas

• Local Nature Reserves(LNRs)

  A place with special local natural interest, set up to protect nature, and for people to enjoy and appreciate. They can be all sorts of places - woodlands, wetlands, meadows or coastal sand dunes.
