This map shows the geographical area we cover in East Highland . |
East Highland Area is a place where people and nature have influenced one another for centuries. Here can be found a range of landscapes from tidal flats and low cliffs, farmland, forests to rivers, lochs, sprawling moors and mountains; a matrix of features covering 5,000 square miles.
Our work is to provide advice for the protection of Scotland's natural heritage, its conservation, planning and development. We are involved with farming schemes, long distance footpaths and the management of the Area's National Nature Reserves. We give information to the public, support ranger services and local school projects. Encouraging people to enjoy and learn from their experiences of the natural heritage is fundamental to our aims. These are challenging areas of work, needing a sensitive balance between the differing demands on the Scottish countryside today. Partnership is a key component of this process.
