National Nature Reserves

These will take you to the Scottish NNR web pages - NNRs represent some of Britain’s most outstanding sites for nature conservation where people are welcome to enjoy the wildlife and scenery. We are fortunate to have three NNRs in Grampian some being owned by SNH while on others we manage the sites together with the owners.

Local Nature Reserves

On a more local theme, we advise local authorities on selecting and managing Local Nature Reserves. Situated close to communities, LNRs give people the chance to enjoy, study and get involved with wildlife close to home. There are LNRs at

National Parks

The Cairngorms National Park is the largest in Britain, covering 3,800 kilometres of beautiful and unspoilt countryside. Over 17,000 people live and work in the towns and villages throughout the area and every year thousands of visitors travel here to enjoy the fabulous scenery, from wild moorlands and soaring mountain peaks to spectacular rivers and tranquil lochs.

Country Parks

We support four Country Parks. These are attractive countryside recreation areas situated close to towns for easy access. They are run by local authorities but receive advice and financial help from SNH.
